Volunteers who keep the town looking beautiful are ‘hopefully confident’ of gaining regional recognition for their work.
South West in Bloom judges Richard Budge and Jim Collins came to Exmouth this week to make their assessment of Exmouth's flower beds.
Exmouth in Bloom has been working tirelessly ahead of the visit by the judges, who were taken on a tour of town after being greeted by mayor Councillor Steve Gazzard.
Gerry Bassett, chairman of Exmouth in Bloom, said the judges seemed to be impressed.
She said: "The judges seemed to be pleased but until we get the results you never know."
Last year, Exmouth in Bloom landed gold in the St Bridget Cup, walking away with the trophy itself, meaning the town will be entered into the 'champion of champions' category.
The town will be up against the winners of the other individual cups in the South West in Bloom competition.
The judges were greeted in Exmouth on Monday (July 15) by the mayor and town crier Roger Bourgein launched the day with the ringing of his bell.
Exmouth in Bloom volunteers showed Mr Budge and Mr Collins around the town's flower beds including Manor Gardens, The Maer, Marpool Primary School and the Hamilton Road allotments.
Along the way the judges met representatives from Clean Streets, Clean Beach Exmouth and The Exmouth Tree Project.
Volunteers involved in community schemes to redecorate areas of the town were also introduced to the judges.
Mr Collins and Mr Budge joined Exmouth in Bloom volunteers on a ride on Exmouth's observation wheel on the seafront.
Marion Drew, vice chairman of Exmouth in Bloom, said: "The judging criteria has three sections - horticulture, community and environment - so all of our entry this year have been targeted in these areas.
"We are crossing our fingers for a gold again."
She thanked all the volunteers and council employees who have worked 'tirelessly' to make Exmouth look 'wonderful'.
The results will be announced at the South West in Bloom finals in Newquay in October. The contest is one of the 18 competitions that make up Britain in Bloom.
