A relaxed place to hear a variety of live acoustic music, or join an open session and perform in a friendly atmosphere
The programme of entertainment continues throughout January at the Bicton Inn, with plenty of chances to enjoy live music, or join in with the singing and playing yourself.
The traditional pub offers eight real ales as well as local ciders, and a warm, relaxed atmosphere on those chilly January evenings.
Thursday January 10 is Open Mic Night, from 8.30pm: an evening of music and poetry from anyone who would like to come along and perform, in a very welcoming environment. The monthly event has so far included a wide range of musical genres and given exposure to some very talented musicians, poets and singers. There is no need to book a place, just come along and enjoy performing for a friendly audience.
Saturday January 12 at 5pm: Livvy Hylton-Smith & John McLoughlin. This duo comprise charismatic singer Livvy Hylton-Smith and versatile multi-instrumentalist John McLoughlin, who perform a very varied selection of songs from the 70s to the present day, including some interesting originals.
Sunday January 13th January 5pm: Nine Pound Catfish, who are Graham Butterfield and Ian Gardner on guitars, mandolin, banjo and vocals, with Jane Gardner singing and playing washboard, bells, hooters, whistles and spoons. The trio are of a high musical standard but their music is full of fun and whimsy. Theyperform a mixture of hokum, ragtime blues and old country music, mainly from the 20s and 30s.
Sunday, January 13 at 8.30pm: Exmouth Irish Session. Enjoy an evening of lively and evocative music from the Emerald Isle in this Sunday night session, which attracts singers and musicians from all over Devon. If you sing or play, come and join in. All abilities are welcome. It’s a great opportunity to meet up with people with Irish roots too.
Thursday, January 17 at 8.30pm is Becky’s Folk & Indie Open Night. This is another relaxed open session featuring acoustic music performed by anyone who would like to come along to sing or play. It is hosted by Exmouth’s favourite balladeer Becky Brooks, and anyone can join in the fun, performing solo or as part of the group. All abilities are welcome.
