Enjoy Exmouth More spent the afternoon with Albie McMahon of Hands-on Health to see what the health and fitness clinic can offer residents of Exmouth.
Are you Feeling Good? We spent the afternoon with Albie McMahon (owner of Hands-on Health at 16 Victoria Road) to see what it’s like inside the clinic and what a health and fitness clinic is all about. Be sure to visit the website to find out more: www.hands-onhealth.co.uk
Here’s what Albie had to say about his business:
“Hands-on Health is a health and fitness clinic offering therapies to get you back on form and classes to keep you fit. A warm, welcoming and accessible environment at ground floor level in Exmouth town centre, it opened in May 2011 to provide a team-based ‘one-stop shop’ approach to addressing pain, injury and rehabilitation.
“Therapies include massage, reflexology, physiotherapy, acupuncture, hypnotherapy and psychotherapy, and there are classes throughout the week in yoga and physiotherapy-led Pilates.
“Hands-on Health’s massage team includes male and female therapists and sports specialists with experience in many different techniques. Free consultations are available to help clients decide where to start if they are unsure.
“In addition, the clinic specialises in TRX training, a whole-body, individually tailored approach to fitness and rehabilitation suitable for all ages and physical conditions. TRX is ideal for training for a specific sport, post-natal return to fitness and rehabilitation after surgery to help prevent injuries or further health issues whilst providing continuity of care. We offer free TRX tasters so that clients can ‘try before they buy’.
“All Hands-on Health’s therapists give patients as much time as they need during every consultation and take care to explain their treatment fully. It’s all about communication: understanding what is going on, and how it will be treated, helps patients to feel less anxious as well as reducing their pain and discomfort.
“Class sizes are small, allowing individual attention and tuition. The clinic’s fitness clients are aged from 18 to well over 80 and many of them say that they love it because it’s NOT like a gym!
“The building itself is a healthy environment, with bamboo floors and underfloor heating in all the treatment rooms and the fitness studio, VOC-free paintwork throughout, organic massage oils and eco-friendly cleaning products.
“As part of the local business community, the clinic offers room hire to local teachers and therapists who share its ethos.
Hands-on Health’s slogan is Feeling Good. The team aims to relieve clients’ pain and discomfort so that they can take up exercise and enjoy a healthier lifestyle rather than be dependent on frequent treatment. Satisfied, healthier clients visit less often for treatment, but they often join one (or more) of the fitness classes - and many recommend the business to their friends and relatives – which is the healthy way to run a clinic!”
