Popworld is coming to Exmouth - but what can the town’s revellers expect from its newest late-night hotspot?

It's confirmed - Popworld will be opening in The Parade later this summer making the seaside resort the latest destination for the chain.

The new venue will open in the spot currently occupied by Fever and Boutique, which has been part of the night scene in Exmouth for more than four years.

Fever announced on social media that they will be having a farewell party on Saturday (July 6) and will eventually be replaced by Popworld.

So, what can people expect when Popworld opens? Luckily, some staff at the Exmouth Journal can give you an insight from their own experiences down the years.

Speaking of his experience in Surrey, Journal editor Andre Langlois said: "My memories of Popworld in Guildford, are of the taste of sambuca, sticky floors and loud music of which, as a listener to 6 Music and Radio 2, I was only dimly aware.

"It's a place fuelled by the phrase 'one more beer', where dancing should be judged more on enthusiasm than rhythm. The sight of a chief reporter, male in this case, attempting to pole dance on stage around a pillar was par for the course."

Chief reporter Beth Sharp shared the statement once announced by a Popworld DJ minutes after she arrived at one of their venues: "This music is pure stilton in here, it's so cheesy."

Judging by one of the sister venues in Plymouth, people can expect a variety of themed nights.

Tipsy Tuesdays allow people free entry all night and drinks are available at £1.50 each.

Twenty-four hours later its 'Wacky Wednesdays' with a specialist DJ and a similar drinks offer.

Thursday nights are ideal for those who enjoy 'throwbacks' to the 80s and 90s and Fridays and Saturdays are known as 'the weekender' with more deals on branded drinks.

Popworld owners Stonegate Pub Company said: "We acquired the Fever clubs earlier this year and plan to make a significant £400,000 investment in the Exmouth site to create an exciting new look.

"The premises will remain a late-night business which will reopen later in the summer, creating a number of new jobs."
